Egg drop syndrome - 76 (EDS)
Hastalık Özetleri
Kanatlı
AETIOLOGY:
Adenovirus EDS-76.
TRANSMISSION:
- Horizontal transmission: direct by exudates, fundamentally from faeces.
- Vertical transmission: transmission by egg is important, because apparently there is a relationship between hormonal changes during the beginning of laying and viral excretion.
CLINICAL SIGNS:
Lack of laying for approximately 3 to10 weeks. The drop percentage is variable and it is not usual to recuperate the levels obtained before infection. Eggshell colour and quality are affected.
LESIONS:
Affects the oviduct and shell gland producing inflammatory alterations.
DIAGNOSIS:
- Causal agent identification: viral isolation.
- Serological: ELISA, IHA.
TREATMENT, PREVENTION AND CONTROL:
There is no effective treatment and the most widely-used option for disease prevention is vaccination with inactivated vaccines during rearing.
