HIPRA promotes international collaboration spaces to advance PRDC control

Controlling Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC) continues to be one of the main health challenges facing the global swine industry. With the aim of fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences related to this challenge from a comprehensive perspective, the HIPRA Campus hosted the second edition of HIPRA University Respisessions.

The event brought together swine veterinarians from different Latin American countries to share knowledge and discuss some of the main challenges linked to PRDC control. These included aspects related to diagnostics, the epidemiological situation in different regions, biosecurity, environmental conditions, gilt adaptation, and other key factors for the effective management of this challenge. 

The event featured leading experts such as Quim Segalés, Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and researcher in endemic swine viruses at CReSA; Enric Marco, international veterinary consultant; Virginia Aragón, leading researcher in respiratory bacteria at IRTA-CReSA; Bea García, Ramón y Cajal researcher in endemic swine viruses at IRTA-CReSA; Ivan Sánchez, academic and researcher in the Department of Swine Medicine and Zootechnics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico; Maurício Dutra, technical manager at GFD Consultoría; Anna Romagosa, health assurance manager at PIC Europe; Joan Escobet, founder and consultant at Confort Porcino; and Lali Coma, veterinary consultant.

This edition also included practical sessions such as necropsy workshops, round tables and farm visits, as well as a session led by HIPRA’s Digital Health department highlighting the role of digital solutions in prevention. All sessions combined a scientific knowledge-based approach with field experience and practical application. 

HIPRA University Respisessions was created with a long-term vision and with the aim of becoming an international benchmark for the exchange of specialized knowledge and the connection between professionals, researchers and companies in the swine sector, through future editions focused on different regions and production realities.
