HIPRA attended the 2019 North American PRRS Symposium

Porcs

We took part in the NA PRRS Symposium 2019 that was held 2nd and 3rd November in the city of Chicago.

This congress is the most important meeting on the American continent, specially dedicated to PRRS due to its relevance within the swine industry and all the unanswered questions that still exist today concerning this viral disease.

The congress brought together the top PRRS researchers from around the world who shared their most recent advances in the disease over the two-day session.

HIPRA had the opportunity to invite the PRRS key opinion leader Prof. Dachrit  Nilubol from the Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) who in an oral presentation shared the results of the trial “Efficacy of type 1 PRRS MLV against HP-PRRSV or co-challenge with PRRSV1 when vaccinated via IM or ID in pigs”.

This is one of the most recent HIPRA studies that proves the cross-protection of the live vaccine UNISTRAIN® PRRS not only against the highly pathogenic PRRSV2 but also against a coinfection of PRRSV2+PRRSV1 in the same animal, which is a common situation in some Asian countries.

In all the vaccinated groups, UNISTRAIN®PRRS was able to reduce lung lesions and viremia as well as improve growth performance.

Professor Dachrit also highlighted the good results obtained in the intradermally vaccinated animals with the advanced needle-free injection device Hipradermic®, positioning this route of administration as an alternative to improve vaccine efficacy.

For HIPRA, it was an honor to participate in this PRRS congress, sharing its latest innovations and strengthening its position as leader in prevention in both animal health and PRRS disease.
