The session was given by Ramón Armengol, Professor in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lleida. In the theoretical part, various important management aspects were reviewed for the prevention of pneumonia in heifers and some of the available methods of diagnosis were explained, with particular focus on the use of thoracic ultrasound as a very useful tool for the detection of subclinical BRDC. Beatriz Relancio, Corporate Product Manager at HIPRA, gave a presentation on the economic impact of the BRDC in breeding heifers and the consequences for future milk production. During the session, the veterinarians had the opportunity to examine the breeding heifers on the farm using their own ultrasound machines, with guidance provided by Ramón Armengol on resolving any uncertainties concerning the clinical cases observed.
