2nd Seminar on Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci (CNS) in Ghent, Belgium

โค

Speakers from different countries presented the recent data on prevalence and distribution of these pathogens. According to speaker from Norway the distribution of CNS strongly differed among housing and milking systems.

CNS seems to be able to form biofilm and still the biofilm formation capacity seems to vary among the different species. On the other hand, some CNS species have an ability to increase SCC more than others. Some results presented indicated that host-derived factors such as immune status might play a pivotal role in the manifestation of mastitis.

Last but not least proof was shown that the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance in CNS rises with increasing antimicrobial use and this association was drug dependent.

In conclusion there was consensus that the best option in these situation will be giving up treatments of CNS IMI and focusing more on management and preventive tools.

Being a part of such a great event, HIPRA reinforces its commitment to improving milk quality worldwide.
