Mª Rosa Caro, professor at the University of Murcia, then gave an update on the situation regarding vaccines against enzootic abortion and outlined, from her own experience, what the best vaccine against abortions should be like.

The innovative process of Chlamydia inactivation used on this vaccine delivers better results

Carlos Montbrau, a researcher with HIPRA’s R+D team which developed the vaccine, set out the main reasons why INMEVA is the vaccine that the market has needed.

During his presentation, he showed how its antigenic composition, the right choice of adjuvant and above all how the innovative process of inactivation of Chlamydia deliver better results in the reduction of abortions caused by Chlamydia abortus and Salmonella Abortusovis.

He also explained how all this makes vaccination safe during lactation and gestation, as well as there being no risk of infection by vaccine strain.

INMEVA is the only Chlamydia vaccine that reduces shedding and clinical signs and is combined with Salmonella

Finally, Teresa Calvo, Small Ruminants Brand Manager at HIPRA, emphasised the most important subjects covered during the event and which make INMEVA a distinctive vaccine:

  • Chlamydia and Salmonella are present in 79% of isolates from abortions in Spain.

  • Abortions involve an economic loss of €70 euros in terms of meat and €200 in terms of milk.

  • Up to now, the options available on the market have not provided an ideal solution.

  • INMEVA is the only inactivated Chlamydia vaccine that reduces shedding as well as clinical signs and is combined with Salmonella.

With the launch of INMEVA, HIPRA strengthens its commitment to the small ruminants industry, and to innovation, developing quality technological products that are tailored to the needs of their users.
