A new HIPRA UNIVERSITY course on atrophic rhinitis in pigs took place in Belgium & Netherlands

Domuz

The second session of the “Prevention of the Bovine Respiratory Disease Complex in cattle rearing” was held on 14 December last, organized by HIPRA at the Mas Bes farm, Girona. Veterinarians from the North of Spain attended the course, where they had the opportunity to update their knowledge on the prevention of the BRDC by means of early diagnosis and improvement of management on the farm.

The session was given by Ramón Armengol, Professor in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Lleida (Spain). In the theoretical part, various important management aspects were reviewed for the prevention of pneumonia in heifers and some of the available methods of diagnosis were explained, with particular focus on the use of thoracic ultrasound as a very useful tool for the detection of subclinical BRDC. Beatriz Relancio, Corporate Product Manager at HIPRA, gave a presentation on the economic impact of the BRDC in breeding heifers and the consequences for future milk production. During the session, the veterinarians had the opportunity to examine the breeding heifers on the farm using their own ultrasound machines, with guidance provided by Ramón Armengol on resolving any uncertainties concerning the clinical cases observed.

By this initiative, which links in with the HIPRABOVIS® range of products, HIPRA reaffirms its commitment to continuing training amongst veterinary professionals as well as the prevention of the BRD complex in cattle rearing.
